  One of the things that have become a recurrent feature in Kuwait during Ramadan are the TV commercials. Before Ramadan advertising companies vie for jobs that produce lucrative revenue for them at this time of year. And businesses also compete for those important time slots on TV where they expect more views of their commercials. After Iftar, there are more likely to be more people gathered in front of the TV.

  There are many different commercials obviously, but I found this series for NBK (National Bank Of Kuwait) to be amusing using their camel logo:

  Back from Yellowstone National Park. Now I probably have not seen much of the world, but these colorful lands have to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is amazing that when you go to spend some time in the nature you realize how we human beings are always touched by the simplest things in life, like sitting on the grass by the river talking with a friend or walking slowly between the long trees.   I have written about blogging platforms in the past. Specifically, I’ve made comparisons between Blogger and Wordpress as they remain to be the most popular choices by bloggers. When it comes to picking sides, the obvious answer has always been, “depends on what you want”.

  From then on, I’ve experimented with other services that have crept up on the web. Some I liked more than others, but the fact still remains, there’s always a downside to each of these systems. That’s why I wrote a page about my gripe with blogs and how to -if possible- for some developer to design the ultimate blogging platform!

  It’s been published a few days ago, but I don’t think many of my readers noticed it. Anyway, read through it, leave a comment, digg it, tell me what you think :)

  Never argue with an idiot

  Over the course of my early life, I used to always get into arguments with people whenever I hear them say something stupid. Almost always, the argument would go something like this:

  Hitman1: My stomach hurts
  Someone: Drink 7-Up
  Hitman1: why?
  Someone: 7-Up cures upset stomachs
  Hitman1: No it doesn’t… 7-Up is just Water, Sugar, and CO2 and none of these do anything to stomach aches
  Someone: No really, it always helped me and I know many that helped them too.
  Hitman1: No it didn’t, your pain must have gone away because the cause went away, not because of 7Up
  Someone: you’re very stubborn and think you know it all; explain to me then why did everyone who had stomach aches and drank 7Up became better?

  The above dialog is an example of many that happened to me; and on everyone of them I end up with high frustration and blood pressure levels. The idiots begin the argument with a stupid statement, and then would back it off with something even more stupid leaving you going in circles with him. Time after time I would fall in these arguments trying to teach or correct stupid believes, until one day I read this quote:

  "Never argue with an idiot; they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience" — Unknown

  "oh my god this just couldn’t be any more right" I told myself. All this time I was wasting my time and my nervous system with idiots. Whenever you argue with an idiot, you risk bringing yourself down to their level and then worse, you get beat by their experience in stupid statements and believes making you look like the fool. After that, my dialogs with idiots evoloved to this:

  Someone: whenever you have a skin cut, put lemon juice on it to heal it faster
  Hitman1: wow, that’s a nice tip.. thank you
  Someone: you’re welcome

  Viola, I’d walk away from the idiot without wasting a single calorie uselessly trying to explain to him how stupid what he said is.

  So should we ignore all stupid statements? is everyone who say a stupid thing is always one who cannot listen to reason? No… one should make a judgment on who and who not to argue with. My judgment is usually based on how stupid the statement is. For example: my devilish nature just cannot resist keeping the above idiot torture himself with lemon juice on his cuts

  Ramadanian Tidbits

  For some reason, I cannot take my eyes off of Haleema Boland’s “Fawazeer” and nor can my cousins. After futoor, we all sit around the television set and stare at her with “Is she for real?” and “How can her husband agree to this?” type of comments flying about.

  So Ramadan funks up the metabolism. That’s nice. One of the things that I do love about Ramadan though is the aroma of familiar foods you smell just before you enter the house. That has never changed and I hope it never will.

  I was at a gathering at my gal pal’s place the other night and one of the girls, the youngest and a friend of a friend, squealed when an old, white-haired man and his wrinkled wife appeared on the TV screen, “Oh I love old people! They’re so cute!” Of course, the other girls smiled at her and agreed. I just looked at her blankly while thinking, “Cute? If I turn seventy and somebody refers to me as cute because I’m old and on the verge of death I will F them up.”

  I actually thought about what kind of “old person” I would be when I’m, well, old. Would I be that stereotypical nice and sweet grandmother who sits around the house drinking tea while ordering the help around? Or would I be one of those who cuss and damn everything that passes by them? The latter would be so much more fun. Old people can get away with many things…

  ضحكت كثيرا وأنا أقرأ ماكتبه فؤاد الهاشم اليوم !! حقيقة إن مهنة الاعلام والصحافة هي مهنة ممتازة ! فهي تجعل الكاتب يخوض في أكاذيبه وأمانيه ويجعلها حقيقة ويعتقد القارئ أن كل مايتفوه به هو صدق نابع من قلم صادق

  الضربة العسكرية التي تلقتها سوريا قبل أيام وقبل نشرها في صحيفة الوطن كان الجميع على علم بذلك ! أي نعم أن التفاصيل وإن كانت غير مؤكدة أساسا من الطرف الاسارائيلي أو حتى السوري وليعلم الهاشم أن هناك الكثير من القراء لاتهمهم البحث عن الحقائق وراء التلفازو التسّمر بسبب الخبر الحصري الذي انفردت به زاويته … اليوم يعود ويقول أن “كبيرة” المراسلين بالسي ان ان طلبت من الجهات المختصة الامريكية والاسرائيلية نشر وثائق تلك الضربة وأخبروها أن “الوطن الكويتية” تحديدا قد سبقتها !!

  يا أخي حصريا مرة وحدة ؟ الوطن حسب التصنيف الاخير لها بالكويت فهي تعتبر بالمركز الثالث … وعربيا الله أعلم وعالميا أتوقع ماقبل الاخيرة … يعني مثلا أكبر الصحف العالمية والدولية ستلجأ الى الوطن علشان ذلك الخبر الحصري

  Last week, I received an email from one of the co-owners of Panacheous.com. She asked me to review the website on Kuwait-Style.com. Have you ever heard of Panacheous.com? The first impression I had of the site is that the name will be very difficult to remember.Panacheous is a newly launched online shopping website based in Kuwait. They offer styles for women, men and children with specialized life style and gifts sections.

  

  Some sections are filled with great selections of items while others remain rather empty, with an item or three. The evening dress section consists of one dress, the Bow Back dress for KD250, also featured on the main page.

  Prices range from the very affordable to high. The bags and designer section are where you notice a price jump, ranging from KD100 and higher. I found a few things I would definitely buy, most of them from the CC Skye range as seen below.

  

  As a new website, I think the owners did a good job in categorizing the goods they offer. However, the display of the merchandise needs some improvement. It’s a little jarring for the backgrounds of the pictures to change from white to black and into other colors. A more uniform look to the merchandise will do wonders to unify the website. Another issue is the presentation of some of the merchandise. A great image will do wonders for the sales of an item as opposed to a low-quality image.
